Darius Houses
3 Recuperative Group Homes for Abandoned Children with Disabilities

For years Romanian parents were told they could not adequately care for their disabled children and were encouraged to abandon them to the state. Orphanages are filled with these children who have no hope of adoption due to severe emotional, physical, and mental handicaps. RCE knew mercy had to be given to these abandoned children. And that’s why Darius House was born. Named for an autistic little boy, Darius, the home opened in 2000 for children with overwhelming needs.

It's a fact:

• 15 children have been adopted (or are in process) from Darius House since it opened in 2000

• Darius House children benefit from a tele-medicine link to the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, DC where doctors and physical therapists consult in their care

• Each child has an individualized recuperative program of therapy, developed by an international team of experts

• Darius House children attend church, and are part of the community of faith in Arad

• Darius House children enjoy two weeks in the mountains at RCE’s summer camp, outings to the theatre, zoo, and community events

Good News! Imola got a family. In June 2007 Imola was adopted by a loving Romanian family. She enjoys going back to visit her friends at Darius House.
