Sunshine School Goes to Camp

Sunshine School once again closed out the school year by spending a week at camp. Sixty-three people – students, family members, staff – enjoyed boating on a nearby lake, exploring a medieval castle, games, good food and fellowship and time together in the word of God. This is a very special time for families who do not have the means to travel with their disabled child and gives teachers, parents and staff time to know one another better.
Here in her words Sunshine School teacher, Simona Liionione, describes camp.

“We had a great time at camp. I was the ‘companion’ for my student (and Darius House child), Bianca. She was so calm and happy to just play in the grass and pick flowers. It was a big encouragement for Matei, my teaching assistant, and I to talk to the parents at camp because through their eyes we were able to see how much progress has been made over the year and how much they appreciate what we are doing for their child. In addition to having time to talk with families we enjoyed special activities every morning including going in a boat on the lake (the favorite activity for Darius) or a visit to the castle. We had organized games but also time just to relax together by the lake.

All the parents were so satisfied seeing their children in the middle of nature, being happy and enjoying things like other children can. We had wonderful weather. Our Heavenly Father took care of everything and gave us such a happy time together to close out our school year.”
