Amy's House

Amy's House opened in 2010 with a mission to provide a family environment for Darius House teens (who had not been adopted) where they could learn life skills needed for independent (or semi-independent) life in community. RCE partnership churches stand by to welcome the 'graduates' of Amy's House into their community of faith with limited oversight.

Otto, Ghita, and Manu were the first boys introduced into the new Amy's House family in the summer of 2010. After 15 months, the blessings of being in their own family and home are visible on the faces of each boy. In the photos here you can get of glimpse of them receiving a lesson in lawn care from house mom, Krista. After one year a RCE director accompanied the boys on a trip into Arad to measure progress on the skills required in order to allow them greater independence. They were each able to negotiate a simple trip on public transportation and do some smart shopping at the grocery store, comparing prices and counting change for their purchases.

For formal schooling, the boys go to a "daily center," which is required by law and provides a small measure of education. Soon the boys will begin learning at simple job skill at RCE's Job Training Center (scheduled to open in June 2012).
